Hawthorne Library

Hawthorne Library

"In our library, we don’t just read about the world, we build it. Whether it’s a line of C++ code or a page in a book, if it sparks curiosity and joy, it belongs here. Don't overthink it; just create." — Myriame Fisse, Hawthorne Librarian

The Hawthorne Elementary Library is a vibrant, inclusive hub where curiosity, creativity, and connection meet. Serving a diverse community, our library acts as a window to the world for every child. Here, tradition meets the future: students are empowered to select their own books and cultivate a lifelong love of reading while engaging with 21st-century skills.

We offer a variety of enrichment opportunities, including Idaho Battle of the Books (IBOB), C++ coding logic, and Robotics Club featuring Jr. Botball and Spheros. Through our ONRAMP partnership, we seamlessly weave art and computational thinking into our existing curriculum. By integrating technology into books and thematic projects, rather than teaching it in isolation we ensure that STEM remains approachable, playful, and purposeful. At Hawthorne, we empower every student to explore, imagine, and grow as a lifelong learner.

Hello fellow readers and Hawthorne families! My name is Mrs. Fisse, and I am so excited to be your librarian! I love animals, being outdoors, and taking walks along the Greenbelt. It's one of my favorite places to relax and recharge.

You will visit the library once or twice each week, where we’ll explore stories, discover new books, and build a love of reading together. Our time will include weekly checkouts, creative art, coding opportunities, and student choice so you can follow your own interests and curiosity.

I have been part of Boise Schools since 2016 and working in the library since 2021. I am passionate about creating a welcoming, inclusive space where every student can feel seen, inspired, and excited to learn. I love helping students find just the right book and encouraging them to explore new ideas, genres, and technologies.

I truly look forward to getting to know each of you and learning what you love to read. I’m so happy to be part of the Hawthorne community.

Below, you'll find additional information about Boise School District Library Services, including resources, programs, and tools that support student learning, literacy, and a lifelong love of reading both at school and at home.

Our Vision

Every student a reader; every learner an explorer. We envision a district where every student builds a unique reading identity and possesses the critical thinking skills to navigate a changing world with confidence and curiosity.

Our Mission

The Library Services program provides an adaptive "in-between" space where students connect classroom learning to personal passion. We foster a lifelong love of literacy and provide a safe, supportive environment for students to explore, fail, try again, and grow.

Our Values

Belonging: We are a sanctuary for all students, reflecting their interests and welcoming their authentic selves. Agency: we empower students to take ownership of their learning and develop their own voice. Agility: We adapt our programs and spaces to meet the evolving needs of our schools and community. Integration: We bridge the gaps between content areas, making learning cohesive and relevant.
